A couple of current projects and some exciting news!

I have been so busy that I didn't even realize it's been over TWO MONTHS since my last post! Here are a couple of projects I've been working on. The first is my homemade soap. I'm a beginner soapier so I am still learning the craft. I was pretty happy with these soaps though! The top pic is red apple (pink and white soap) and Vanilla bean ( brown soap)

This is my sunny herb garden soap

and this is my lilac soap

I have also been working on a few new pieces of Steampunk Jewelry. I had a commission for some  cuff links and tie pin/tack so I made a few more for up coming craft fairs.

And now my news! After working 4 jobs (3 part time) I am quitting my main job and will only be working 3 days a week giving me lots of time to make new things and go to craft shows! I am so excited to slow down and spend more time crafting and painting! I hope to post more often on my blog and to also join more ATC swaps now that I will have more time :O)

Altered box and mini album

This was a box I bought from Hobby Lobby and it started as a plain cardboard box. I made this for my niece and goddaughter Shelby's graduation present. I wanted to make her something special that she could take with her to college and keep all of the memorabilia stuff in.I used primarily Bo Bunny papers but I also used some scraps from other projects.

I wanted to do some sort of detail on the lid to make it unique and I came up with the idea to cut butterflies out of craft paper and then I glued down only the middles to give it a 3-D effect.

I used some postcards from some of my ephemera collection.

This is all of the little goodies I made to put inside

This is a better view of the inside of the box

This mini tag album was supposed to go into the bigger mini album but the album got to big to close properly if I added it so now it's a stand alone mini!

This is a recipe card holder book and I just altered the front cover and added a bunch of family recipes for her.

This is the mini book I made to go in the altered box. The cover has a large S that was also cardboard. I painted it a dark brown and dry brushed gold over it for an antique look.

The next bunch of pics are of the pages in the album. every page has a pocket for tags and pictures

A pic of my beautiful niece on clear transparency paper.

More pages with clear transparency paper

I hope she likes the box and all of the other little things in it! Congratulations Shelby!!!!

One little tutorial still going strong!

Back in 2011 I made a blog post tutorial of these little mini-books. Three years later it's still my most popular post and I still get daily traffic from it! Everyone seems to really like them as much as I do. The tutorial has been re blogged several times and the latest bog to feature my mini books is The Beading Gems Journal and the link to their blog and the post with my mini books is here:book charm tutorial . I love that something I created has been all over blogger land :)

Here is a link back to the original tutorial: mini-book necklaces

2013 highlights

Here are some of my favorite artistic highlights of 2013. First is this painting I did for a fundraiser for our library. It was a commissioned piece and it took about a year to complete!

Next is a few samples of the new Steampunk jewelry I made this year. I had so much fun coming up with new and creative ways to put my "junk" into a new piece of art.

This was at an annual fundraiser for our local art center. I really enjoy going to different events and talking to people about whatever I am working on at the time.

Another fun project I get to do every year is our high school one-act play production. I help with the makeup and I have so much fun working with the kids.

This year I had one of my Steampunk necklaces go to the State art competition and I got an honorable mention!  Its a very tough competition so to get anything is awesome!

And my best highlight of 2013 is my first grand-baby Kalie! She is the cutest baby ever as you can see and she has grandma wrapped around her finger. 2014 should be a great year and I look forward to showing off my newest art projects!
